Marina Mellado’s Luz Light
Aluminium Shapes were approached to produce a curved lighting section, which would be displayed at the Milan Design Exhibition.
But in order to assist both extrusion and forming, our experts needed to make some critical changes to the geometry. It was important the section geometry was retained and the temper was correct as this could have compromised the forming.
Added to this was the time scale. The timeline was very tight, and it was for an award being judged at the show.
We were able to turn the tool around in five days and Marina came to watch and film the die trial in person at our Corby headquarters.
The material was delivered direct to the formers in Nottingham ahead of schedule and this helped to ensure the onward drop date in Milan was achievable.
After the event, we were told that we were the only supportive extruder contacted.
“Thank you very much. The extrusion and bending was perfect.”
We did what we do best; we made sure the customer got what they wanted.
“It was great working with Marina and bringing her idea to fruition” said Shapes director Frank Power. ”It also helped us, as we used her original doodle to create the ‘doodle to delivery’ mantra that is now part of our core message.”
